There’s something new for your iPhone, and it’s based on something great. If you enjoyed playing Knights Onrush, Chillingo’s tower defense game with a twist, you’ll like Quest for Knights Onrush, a free spin-off that will have you hack and slash your way through hordes of enemies “borrowed” from its tower defense counterpart. Unlike most other free games, Quest for Knights Onrush will surprise you with crisp graphics, smooth execution, and overall polish.
We reviewed Knights Onrush (free version, $2.99 full version, now reduced to $0.99 for a limited time) a while ago, labeling it as a “stick figures flicking tower defense game” with a twist that offers amusing ways of killing enemies. Although both games are set in the same medieval environment, Quest for Knights Onrush has a different gameplay and shares only characters and graphics with its tower defense counterpart.
Think Zombieville with knights and swords on steroids, or Castle Crashers. Quest for Knights Onrush has nothing to do with the tower defense genre per se. Instead, you control one character tasked with the mission to force through hordes of enemies using only your sword. Chillingo told us you’ll be able to fight knights, swordsmen, wizards and ballistas, all of which will be well-known to you if you’ve played Knights Onrush. In addition, Quest for Knights Onrush will allow you to take advantage of the leveling system in order to fight as far as you can (hint: survival mode).
Conclusion: Can’t beat the price
Chillingo noted that part of the Knights Onrush gameplay will be actually included in Quest for Knights Onrush, but stressed that the two games follow different story lines, concepts, and mechanics, sharing only graphics and cartoony characters. Quest for Knights Onrush will be provided on a free of charge basis. It should be noted that Chilingo hopes to spin Quest into a full game, so the version posted for the App Store approval is basically a light version.
A premium version, according to the amount of downloads and gamers’ feedback, will include online scores, better AI, bosses, more enemies, objects, and abilities, in addition to multiple levels with different backgrounds and enemies, and three different heroes to choose from, each with unique abilities and leveling system. Meanwhile, search the App Store for “Quest for Knights Onrush” as the game is scheduled to appear soon.
